John trained and qualified as a barrister and has a wealth of experience managing and advising high margin professional services businesses at board level. Initially this concentrated in the investment banking sector for organisations including Hill Samuel, Close Brothers and Noble & Co. In 2007, the enactment of the Legal Services Act initiated profound changes in the way that law firms could raise capital and manage the growth of their businesses. Since then, John has focused on advising numerous legal firms restructure their businesses, raise capital and develop and consolidate their relevant markets through lateral hires and M&A. He is a leading adviser to legal business IPOs and the consolidation of regional legal services firms particularly in the consumer and consultancy legal markets. John has more than 15 years of specialist Corporate Finance advice to legal businesses and partnerships and their management teams, assisting them in developing M&A strategy, valuing their equity, raising money and executing transactions. This expertise runs alongside over 30 years managing and advising people businesses as a CEO, Head of Investment Banking, Head of Corporate Finance and M&A and most recently as Partner heading Corporate Finance and Strategy. During this time he has worked with many innovative law firms focused on growth and looking to take advantage of the challenges and opportunities now presenting to all law firms.
